We had the opportunity to speak with cyber security expert and Nordic Cyber Summit speaker, Thomas Zuliani, to find out a little more about him and his thoughts ahead of his talk at this year’s conference.
Read on below for the full interview!
Please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your background:
My name is Thomas Zuliani, I am a Spanish guy, living in beautiful Denmark for at least 9 years! (Unfortunately, not mastering the Danish language yet ? )
I have +25 years of experience in IT & Digital, being the most relevant companies I’ve worked for Siemens, Vestas, Pandora and Arla.
What do you think are the biggest cyber security risks affecting Nordic businesses today?
In my honest opinion, there is a cocktail of different ingredients for Cyber Security Risks: Of course international and National Threat Actors, Legacy of Systems and applications combined with a raise of connecting IT & OT in the Manufacturing environments, but also, due to our Nordic culture, one of the biggest Risks is the “false perception of Safety”.
What do the next 5 years hold for your industry?
It is going to move incredibly fast and the introduction of AI & Gen. AI will be a game changer. I think we are heading into a “Security as a Commodity” [phase], considering a commodity as “a good or service whose wide availability typically leads to smaller profit margins and diminishes the importance of factors (as brand name) other than price”.
What is your top advice for other cyber security professionals?
Read, talk, network, go, check, do, speak… get your of your comfort zone, understand the business, visit the business units, the factories, the logistic warehouses, go to symposiums, summits, share info and experiences with your colleagues, and listen and absorb from everyone.
What are you most interested in exploring and learning about this year, cyber security wise?
I am very much interested in seeing the possibilities that AI can offer in terms of Protection, Detection but also Mitigation & Remediation, for example with a potential Autonomous system that not only detects the vulnerabilities, but also remediates them, and takes in consideration not having a business impact. Does it exist? Well I guess not yet, but potentially we are very close to it.
