We caught up with SEB Pension’s CISO, Ingela Schmidt to discuss how she views the current threat landscape and what she expects to come to the fray in the future. Read the full interview below and join Ingela and other senior IT security professionals at the Nordic Cyber Series summit in Copenhagen on 10th-11th March!

Q: What gets you up in the morning?

My job and my dog… but my dog prefers to sleep a little longer than me…

Q: How do you explain your job title to someone outside the cyber security industry?

I tell them “I work with security and keep track of customer information…”

Q: What are some of the key recent shifts in the cybercrime threat landscape that you’ve been seeing, and what do you think they mean for cyber security?

People in general are more aware than ever of fraud behaviour, that is really great! But we still need to keep track of our information, wherever it is stored and how it is protected and follow up on how external vendors protect our information. We cannot outsource responsibility.

Q: Is cybercrime evolving quicker than security?

Yes, it´s like a factory out there with ready-made solutions for cyber-crime…

Q: What do the next 5 years hold for your industry?

If only I knew the answer… everything happens so fast, but I think that there’ll be more solutions to mitigate risks in third party security and cloud security. We must fight harder and better against systematic corruption.

Q: If you could change one thing about your work right now, what would it be?

I am happy as it is!

Q: What is the best or worst security advice you’ve ever heard?

Worse security advice from a supplier: “outsource your responsibility to us!” That will never happen.

Q: What’s your favourite way to stay informed about cyber security?

To meet security colleagues both within my company SEB Group but also in external companies within different networks.
